Artist Statement

To band together means to unite as a whole, despite our differences. The exterior of the Cruiser portrays 8 sections, with each section representing individual music genres. On the Cruiser’s sides, these music genres showcase the various instruments used in each section, showing how different styles are united by the same elements. As the styles join on the top, the sections are filled with representations of the style and emotions each category embodies. However, because they are not limited to concrete styles or emotions, elements between each section overlap in order to show the interconnectedness of music. At the Cruiser’s top, where all the components meet, a record is used to band them all together. Despite all the genres being unique in their own ways, they all merge on the same record, emphasizing the message of unity.

On the inside of the Cruiser, a band is shown performing with artists from multiple genres. In other words, the inside is a more literal take on banding together, where even people from different backgrounds can harmonize. The multi-colored lights shine on the performers because they all have their own unique charms, collaborating to captivate the audience. Moreover, the audience has varying silhouettes to show how even people of diverse backgrounds and interests can enjoy the same music. Finally, the bottom of the Cruiser showcases a scene of different artists lounging together, collaborating on an unfinished song. Each figure comes from a different genre, sharing their personal ideas to create something beautiful. By embracing various ideas, we have banded together to create a piece that represents everyone.
