On December 19, Edison High held its annual Holiday Show in the auditorium during Periods 3 and 11. The showcase invited EHS students to watch performances by the dance students, who have been preparing routines throughout the year.

The performance began with a message from dance teacher Ms. Vicki Jenkins, who introduced the dance ensembles. After, the lights dimmed and the show began. The stage was filled with bright colors and loud music, making the experience feel like a true theater to the audience.

The order of the pieces went as listed:

  • Pointe Piece: Nutcracker Song
  • London Andrews’s ‘27 Piece: “Home for the Holidays”
  • Apprentice Piece: “Jingle Bells”
  • Lia Mah’s ‘26 Piece: “Mary Did You Know?”
  • Dance 2: “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”
  • Dance 4: “Winter Wonderland”
  • Dance 3: Jersey Club Remix

Each dance lasted a few minutes, showcasing unique displays with themed costumes. All members of the dance committee spent weeks in rehearsals practicing and choreographing, highlighting the dedication and determination each dancer had for the final performance.

“The first week, we picked out the songs. The second week, we started to learn the dance—but it was fast—and by the third week, I got the hang of it,” said Kailah Andrews ‘27, a performer at the Holiday Show.

Not only did EHS students attend the recital, but the elementary students from the Child Growth and Development class got to see the show from their front-row seats.

“[The elementary students] really loved it. I think they really enjoyed that they got to see people from the class on stage dancing,” said Charlie Granato ‘27.

  • An annual event, the EHS Holiday Show was a culmination of preparation by the EHS dance department since the beginning of the year.

  • Directed by dance teacher Ms. Vicki Jenkins, this year’s Holiday Show featured seven unique holiday-themed pieces, with some being directed by EHS students. One such performance was London Andrews’ (’27) piece “Home for the Holidays.”

  • The December 19 performance, held during Periods 3 and 11, immersed the audience into a true theater atmosphere amidst bright lights and commanding music.

  • The performances in EHS’ Holiday Show on December 19th were all created by members of the dance committee, including overall choreography.

Overall, the in-school dance performance helped students and teachers get in the mood for the holidays and winter break.

“I think that this was an excellent showcase for the hard work of all the dance students,” said Mr. Michael Glackin. “I always love seeing the talents that my students have outside of my class. Ms. Jenkins and the student choreographers really do an excellent job with the whole show.”
