Connor Murphy ‘26 pitched a no-hitter game against St. Joseph’s on April 14, getting 21 outs and only three walks, leading to a 4–0 Edison victory. While this no-hitter isn’t Murphy’s first, it is all the more meaningful as this is the close of his high school career with the Edison baseball team. From his first no-hitter to his most recent, Murphy has improved as a player and become a leading pitcher in the Edison program, significantly lowering his Earned Run Average (ERA) from 4.57 in his freshman year to 0.50 in his senior year.
“I have definitely grown and matured as a player, not letting my emotions get to me and staying level-headed throughout the game,” Murphy stated.
After losing to Saint Joseph’s in a 7–4 GMC game last year, Murphy earned his redemption this year by retiring 21 consecutive batters, not allowing a single hit. He attributes this success to the teachings of his head coach, Mr. Vincent Abene.

“The Edison baseball program has taught me so many lessons, the highs and the lows,” he said. “But Coach Abene always taught us that no matter what, we keep fighting to the end.”
Abene acknowledges Murphy’s commitment and time dedicated to baseball, which has resulted in his success.
“Connor has worked very hard his entire career to put himself in a position to be a very successful high school player,” he affirmed.
Murphy has put his best foot forward this season, especially in pitching. Through mid-April 2026, Murphy posted a 0.39 ERA over eighteen innings, allowing only one run and six hits while striking out 33 batters. His batting stats have also trended upward; in limited early-season action, he recorded a .500 batting average and a .750 slugging percentage. Murphy’s progress has allowed him to now commit to Monmouth University.
“Anytime you can help the team win,” said Abene, “it has a positive impact on the team”.
