Softball Field Gets Upgrades

Given a history of playing on a bumpy field, Edison High has renovated its softball field. While preparations began in early December, the project faced several delays due to the harsh winter. When the renovations were completed on April 7, the team was ecstatic to see the transformation.

“The girls were beyond excited to step onto the field and see it for the first time,” said Ms. Marylynn Muldowney, head coach. “We kept saying, ‘We won’t believe it until we see it,’ and then that moment finally came–and it was amazing! We are very thankful for everyone who helped with this.”

The renovations made a significant impact on those involved in the program. While the upgrades improve logistics for coaches, the changes also show parents that the program is being supported and invested in. For the athletes, playing on a new field makes them feel valued and has elevated their overall experience.

“It felt like Christmas,” said varsity softball player Nalini Parekh ‘27. “Stepping onto the field for the first time filled our whole team with excitement, and we were so ready for all the memories we knew were to come on this field.”

With that renewed sense of energy, the team played its opening game just two days later, on April 9, against Middlesex. They secured a thrilling 8-4 victory, creating a memorable first win on their new turf. Naturally, the team expressed its gratitude for the updated facility.

“This renovation means a lot to me,” said Parekh. “As a varsity player since freshman year, the renovation has meant a lot as I feel that we are appreciated, and this field is a testament to our hard work and recent success. It also allows us to play at our maximum potential, and puts us in a good place to succeed.”

In addition to field improvements, brand-new sheds were built into the dugout, making it easier to store equipment and prepare for practices. Beyond practicality, the renovations have also made the softball program much more appealing to other students, parents, and staff.

“The field brings a more positive environment to the school. It makes the school as a whole look nicer,” said assistant coach Ms. Tatiana Yourstone.

Ultimately, the renovation represents much more than a fresh turf. For EHS, it serves as a symbol of the support athletes receive, and it reflects the Eagle Pride and commitment to the community.
