The Edison girls basketball team finished off strong in a close match against John F. Kennedy Memorial High School on Saturday, January 27, ending their four-game losing streak and putting them at a record of 7–13.

In the second showdown against JFK this season, Edison took the win, finishing 55–45, echoing their victory from January 6 against JFK with a score of 73–38.

With a total of 55 points, Ghelsey Go ‘24 led the offensive, marking a career-high with 37 points in a single game. Go recently passed the 1000-point plateau, making her the seventh Lady Eagle to achieve the amazing feat after scoring 29 points in the January 6 game against JFK.

“The entire team was happy for her,” said Head Coach Francis Eckert. “She has worked hard for her accomplishments and has had an awesome career here at Edison.”

Both Go and Angelisa Kearns ‘26 led the offensive with four blocks and four steals, respectively.

Go totaled eight rebounds throughout the game, with Isabella Charles ‘25 and Olivia Smart ‘25 following with six rebounds each.

Despite Paula Antunes ‘24, leading JFK’s offense with nineteen points, and JFK’s defense, securing nineteen steals, the Edison girls’ defense and offense provided a well-suited package to counter and steal the game.

“Our varsity girls basketball team is a great group of student-athletes,” added Eckert. “As the season progressed they became more connected as a unit. I’m extremely proud of how they consistently compete.”

Go continues to play strong after her accomplishment and both she and the rest of the Eagles now prepare to play their first round of the GMC tournament against Perth Amboy on Monday, February 5.
