Amaresh Chittigidde: June Senior of the Month
June 11, 2020
Do you know someone who can run a mile in under four and a half minutes? Amaresh Chittigidde ‘20, a talented and dedicated runner and the June Rotary Senior of the Month, can boast this feat.
As a year-round athlete, Chittigidde runs cross country, winter track, and spring track, serving as captain for all three sports. He was awarded MVP for cross country and co-MVP for spring track. Amaresh explains that his dedication to these sports can be associated with his love for working out. However, he believes he counteracts this activity with a love for food.
Some of his favorite memories at EHS have come from participating in spring track.
“Each practice, each pasta party, each meet has brought many memories that I will carry with me throughout my life,” Chittigidde says. Outside of sports, Amaresh is also an involved member of Peacock Society, where he served as the lead role in the production during his sophomore year, and a side role during his junior year.
During his time at EHS, Amaresh also learned that the only way to overcome a problem is to confront it head on, and that ignoring the issue at hand will get you nowhere. He learned this particular lesson during his junior year when he had to overcome an injury, and successfully pulled out of it, running a new personal best after this trying time.
This successful senior’s advice to new students is to get involved.
“No one is going to push you to do anything, but when you push yourself, you make friends, memories, and learn life lessons,” he explains. He also prides himself on his firm work ethic, as he often stays late after school working out or going to practices for his sports, and completes all of his homework after that. He believes that many teachers have helped him reach his goals, but would particularly like to thank Mr. Cartagena, Mrs. McKnight, and Mr. McCaffery.
