The Edison varsity boys volleyball team has continued its dominant run to remain at the top of its division. Following the end of the twelfth game of the season, Edison’s record stands at a division high of 11–1.
After achieving a program best 6–0 start to the season, Edison matched up against South Brunswick. Edison lost in two tight sets, 25–15 in the first set before an even closer score of 25–22 in the second set.
Despite this loss marking the first loss for the Eagles, Edison still had some positives. Ajit Sivakumar ‘25 had a game-high ten digs, along with a team-high eight kills. Gavin Garcia ‘25 also had a great match, setting up his teammates with a team-high sixteen assists. Edison also dominated in some team statistics. Specifically, Edison attained 32 digs compared to just 24 for South Brunswick.
Edison bounced back from this loss against North Brunswick, winning two straight sets. The Eagles won the first set 25–20, before following it up with an even larger 25–17 victory. Pranav Janaki Ashok ‘25, a lead setter on the team, ended up with a game-high twelve assists. Garcia continued his excellent start to the season, chipping in ten assists. Mohammad Haady ‘24, the outside hitter, led the way with a game-high eight kills, a game-high eight service points, and a career-high five aces. Boslet also had a good game with a team-high five digs.
The Eagles ended up outplaying North Brunswick in all facets of the game. The Eagles had 25 kills compared to just eight for North Brunswick, 23 assists compared to just seven for North Brunswick, and 29 service points compared to sixteen service points for North Brunswick.
The Eagles followed this victory up with a stunning three set win over the eleventh best team in the state, St. Joseph, bringing their record to 8–1.
Following the historic upset, the Eagles ended up dominating Perth Amboy in two sets, winning 25–14 in the first set and 25–16 in the second set. Janaki Ashok had a season-high 22 assists. Prannit Mathur ‘25 had a career-high ten service points and a career-high nine digs. Boslet and Sivakumar both chipped in with five kills each.
Edison dominated on numerous fronts. Specifically, Edison had 27 digs compared to just fourteen digs for Perth Amboy. Moreover, Edison had 27 assists compared to just three for Perth Amboy. Edison also had 25 kills compared to three for Perth Amboy.
Edison followed up this decisive victory with a straight set victory against Iselin Kennedy. Edison won the first set 25–17; the second set featured improved play from Iselin Kennedy, as Edison won in 27–25. Both Kirtin Amin ‘25 and Boslet led the way with a game-high ten digs. Garcia continued his great run of setting with a game-high eighteen assists. Sivakumar chipped in with a game-high nine kills.
Once again, Edison outplayed its opponent considerably; specifically, Edison had 33 digs compared to just sixteen for Iselin Kennedy, nineteen assists compared to eleven for Iselin Kennedy, and 21 kills compared to fourteen for Iselin Kennedy.
Edison continued its winning streak with another dominant victory, winning 25–14 in the first set and 25–15 in the second set. Sivakumar had a game-high seven kills and a game-high three aces, while Garcia continued his great run with a game-high fourteen assists and a game-high seven service points.
Edison had twenty digs compared to fifteen for Woodbridge, eighteen digs compared to eleven for Woodbridge, and an astounding 29 service points compared to seven service points for Woodbridge en route to its fifth straight victory.
Edison followed this victory with a straightforward victory against North Brunswick, winning 25–9 in the first set and 25–12 in the second set. Garcia had a game-high 23 assists, and Amin had a game-high twelve digs. Boslet also chipped in with ten service points and ten digs, while Haady had a game-high nine kills along with four digs.
“The season has been extremely rewarding for the guys,” said Head Coach Mr. Jason Wernlund.
“They work extremely hard so seeing the results, it’s all worth it. The boys are continuing to work hard through this long season as we are approaching our nineteenth game Friday. With counties and states coming up, we are looking to rest quickly, establish our game plans, and get right back out on the court.”
The Eagles now sit at 14–5 and as a result of their efforts, they are second in the White Division. The Eagles look forward to continuing their victories and dominance in the White Division while getting prepared for county and state tournaments coming up.
