On March 20, Edison High School’s United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) club hosted its annual Badminton for Charity event, raising over $300. Eight teams of two to four players each faced off against one another in an attempt to advance to the finals, but only Shetty Fan Club emerged from a tie for the win.
The finals of this tournament saw a precise shotmaking from two teams: the “Shetty Fan Club” and the “Coquette Beaches.” Viewers witnessed an extremely close match. Both teams showed why they made the finals, displaying advanced strokes during the entirety of the match.
As the final game of the tournament, six minutes of regulation play was granted for the match. At the end of regulation, the scoreboard read a tie. Thus, an overtime period of two minutes was allocated for the tie to be broken.
Although this game was a close one, Shetty Fan Club emerged victorious with the final score reading 18–16. Each of the four players—Ishaan Shetty ‘24, Atharva Inamdar ‘24, Arya Patel ‘24, and Kushagra Dhall ‘24—contributed to the team’s win.
Finishing closely in second place was Coquette Beaches. The team consisted of Vanshika Chib ‘26, Queena Liu ‘26, Priscilla Go ‘26, and Jay Jiang ‘26; these four players had numerous victories on their road to the finals.
“It was super rewarding to watch all the attendees come together and have fun playing, especially knowing that all of the proceeds go back to a good cause,” said Hema Vikram ‘24, President of the EHS UNICEF club. “I’m super grateful for having been able to help organize this event and hope that EHS UNICEF continues this tradition for years to come.”
“Even though my friends and I lost, I thought the event was quite fun and competitive,” said Vansh Kumar ‘27.
