Our Prediction: Chiefs 27 – Eagles 24
While both teams have had impressive seasons, we believe that Kansas City has the edge. Patrick Mahomes has consistently proven himself in high-pressure moments, and with Travis Kelce’s playoff experience, the Chiefs’ passing attack will be hard to stop. Even with the Eagles’ top-ranked defense, slowing down Mahomes when the game is on the line has proven to be a challenge for every team he’s faced in the postseason.
This season, the Kansas City Chiefs have played a well-rounded game, scoring a respectable 27.0 points per game and ranking ninth in total defense. With an average of 27.2 points per game, the Philadelphia Eagles have surpassed the Chiefs in scoring and have the NFL’s best defense. Despite their impressive 367.2 total yards per game — much of which comes from their strong ground attack — the Chiefs’s passing offense struggled in the regular season, although slightly less in the playoffs, finishing 14th in the league.
We expect the Eagles to find it difficult to match Mahomes and Kansas City’s more well-rounded offensive strategy due to Philadelphia’s inconsistent passing game.
The Eagles will more than likely aim to maintain possession, to keep Mahomes off the field, through a strong running game and many shorter passes. Jalen Hurts is a crucial part of this plan, having had 630 rushing yards on top of his 2,903 total passing yards this season, and can be expected to serve as a crucial red zone player. Saquon Barkley, the running back, has averaged about 5.8 yards per carry, and has cumulatively totaled over 2000 yards this season, so the Chiefs’ defense will also prioritize him during the many rushing and red-zone plays.
Highlighting the defensive aspect of this game, while both teams have really strong defenses, Kansas City has shown their tendency to slip up more than the Eagles. The Eagles’ pass rush, primarily led by Josh Sweat, will aim to test Mahomes’s true limits as the renowned “escape artist” that he is. However, Philadelphia’s secondary has struggled at times, potentially providing openings for wide receivers and tight ends, prominently Travis Kelce and Rashee Rice. The Chiefs’ defense, fastened by defensive tackle Chris Jones, has also played relatively well, but has lapsed against running plays. However, Mahomes compensates for this defensive struggle with his ability to extend plays and make clutch passes, suggesting a rather fierce matchup between these two teams.
What Edison Thinks
Students are torn on the outcome of this matchup. While many believe the Eagles have the stronger roster this time around, especially with Barkley leading the way, others have faith in the Mahomes-led Chiefs to win yet another Super Bowl.
“I believe the Eagles will win this season,” said Abhiram Jonnagalada ‘26. “Saquon has an MVP caliber year, their offensive line is very elite and pass protection is crazy, AJ Brown is still a threat away from the run game and pass defense looks unbreakable.”
“I think that the Eagles will win in this rematch against the Chiefs,” said Nand Kansara ‘26. “The Eagles are the likely winners in my opinion because of Saquon’s performance throughout the season.”
It seems to be, however, that the majority of Edison High School students seem to believe the Chiefs will win with full certainty this year.
“The Chiefs will win the Super Bowl due to their overall better coaching, play style, and their ability to do better in clutch/important moments,” said Nitin Gautham ‘27.
“They are statistically favored in the betting odds,” said Logan Ulozas ‘28. “Especially with Mahomes being the best current quarterback in the league, and the Chiefs having a solid defense.”
