MLB, WNBA, NFL. Today’s athletes are very dedicated, with many children having early hopes of going pro. Decades ago, it was a widely popular opinion that the only thing that mattered was your skill. However, as technology advances, so does sports equipment. Now, if you want to go pro, the tools you have available to you matter just as much as your skill. No matter how much natural talent you have, that potential could be wasted if your equipment doesn’t accentuate your abilities.
As a softball player of 12 years, I’ve grown up alongside this ever-evolving equipment. Buying the Easton Ghost Unlimited, the first words that left my mouth were “Wow.” Not knowing if the bat could do its job, the colors popped out to me first. Although the main purpose of the bat is to hit well, let’s not fool ourselves into thinking the look of the bat doesn’t have an impact, as it’s the other team’s first impression of you in a game. The bat’s sleek and modern design caught my attention compared to the dozens of bats—I imagine all the other bats watching, jealous, as the Ghost gets chosen. The packaging is minimalistic, as there is only a thin, clear, plastic wrapping surrounding the bat. This is done purposely so the consumer can see what the bat looks like without any distractions.
Beware that no matter how good the bat is, the player’s ability matters just as much. The bat itself is perfect for a high school girl who is more of a contact hitter than a power hitter. It has an amazing pop, and the “sweet spot” is much larger than other bats of similar use. Its lightweight feel is perfect for long game days. However, there have been questions surrounding the durability of Easton Fastpitch bats, as many people have posted videos of their bats breaking. The Ghost line specifically is made up of composite material, which means it’s more prone to cracks and breaks. The total cost of the bat is a whopping $500, so with this history of more questionable durability, the solution would be to add the warranty plan at checkout—but, be aware it’s an additional $100 charge. Though the price might scare some players and parents, the benefits of the bat for a serious player outweigh its one downside.
Overall, I am pleased with the performance of this bat. Its lightweight feel, large sweet spot, and captivating colors make the bat enjoyable to hit with. In a game, the feeling of the ball flying off the bat is hard to top. If you are a contact hitter and want a reliable and consistent bat, the Ghost is perfect for you. Buying the bat is convenient, as it is sold at many sporting goods stores as well as on online vendors.
As long as you are a serious player with $500 to spend and a love of intimidating others softball players in your heart, I strongly recommend buying this bat.
