Committed member of the EHS music department, Juan Mora Herrera ‘25, has earned the title of Rotary’s June Senior of the Month.
Herrera has demonstrated his dedication in various aspects of the EHS music department through his committed participation in the EHS Wind Ensemble, serving as Drum Major of the Marching Band, Drum Captain of the Indoor Percussion, and playing the drum set for Jazz Band and Ensemble over the last three years.
Herrera expresses his gratitude to his family, whom he thanks for the support in allowing him to devote himself to the EHS community. He also recognizes his teachers and the EHS staff for making the school environment inviting and a place for him to thrive, specifically thanking Mr. Charles Ross for always being a positive spirit for the school and always cheering him on. He also highlights band teacher Mr. Marc Denicuolo for being a great mentor and inspiration to him for the last four years.
Herrera recalls the various concerts held at EHS where he showcased his talent and passions. He also looks back on various rehearsals or practices where he learned to become a better lacrosse player, honed his talent as a part of the Marching Band, or spent late nights with the Indoor Percussion players.
After graduating, Herrera plans to attend Rutgers University in New Brunswick to major in Electrical Engineering. He also intends to audition for the Rutgers Band ensembles as well as continue his passion for playing the marching snare drum as a drum tech.
To future and current underclassmen, Herrera preaches to always be optimistic. He advises maintaining motivation to strive forward in any passions and to use difficulties as fuel. Herrera also highlights the need to stay focused and committed throughout the four years of high school.
“No matter what hardships you are going through, whatever difficulties or hardships are bothering you, always see the light at the end of the storm,” he said.
