On June 25, EHS held its annual Commencement Ceremony at the Jersey Mike’s Arena for the largest class in the school’s history. After four years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, the Class of 2025 accomplished this important milestone in their educational journey.

Behind the scenes, hundreds of graduates gathered behind the curtains in their respective lines, ready to begin the nearly two-hour ceremony. In the minutes leading up to the ceremony, parents filled the arena’s seats, and the crowd buzzed with cheers and conversation.

The ceremony officially started at 5 p.m., when the graduates entered the arena, and live procession music from the Edison High School band played to set the soundtrack for the event. Led by Band Director Mr. Marc Denicuolo, the celebratory and traditional piece “Pomp and Circumstance” by Edward Elgar filled the room.

After the graduates were seated, morning announcer Stella Wong ’25 took to the podium. To commemorate the moment, she took a selfie with the graduating class. Shortly after, Wong gave a speech to the graduating class and sealed it with her signature morning phrase, “As always Eagles, fly high.”

Following the speech, the EHS Chamber Choir performed the National Anthem under the direction of Choir teacher Mr. Joshua Lisner, ultimately setting the stage for the rest of the ceremony.

After Principal Mr. Charles Ross gave an official welcome address, salutatorian Brianna Feneque ‘25 reflected on her upbringing and achievements in her speech.

“This achievement is my contribution to my family, a step forward and a promise that what seems impossible is actually possible,” Feneque said.

Similarly, valedictorian Mithil Mishra ‘25 took the stage and delivered thanks to his family, friends, and teachers who made his time at Edison High special. In his speech, Mishra expresses his gratitude for the opportunities he has been presented with.

“I’ve been aided by mentors, friends, family, and luck,” Mishra said.

Following the speeches, Mr. Jerry Shi, president of the Board of Education, gave a few remarks where he congratulated the class for overcoming obstacles due to the COVID-19 pandemic in their early high school career.

“Remember, Eagles: Do not just fly, they lead,” Shi said.

Afterwards, choir members debuted an Edison High-specific piece called “Journey On” by Casey Gorab, led again by Lisner. The song encapsulated both struggle and triumph throughout the high school experience, while also highlighting the choir and music communities’ close connection.

Following the musical performance, final remarks were given to the Class of 2025. These speakers included Micaelynne Correia ‘25 and the Superintendent, Dr. Edward Aldarelli, who each offered congratulations to the graduating class and officially certified the class.

“We are so proud of you, we believe in you, we can’t wait to see the future that you create, and best of luck with what you do,” said Aldarelli.

However, the highlight of the night was seeing many graduates excitedly receive their diplomas and hear their families in the crowd cheer for them.

“I cried because I watched Sanaya graduate, and she was just a little baby, and now she’s about to go to college,” said the mother of Sanaya Patel ‘25.

For many, graduation marked the end of a chapter.

“Grad felt surreal; I could not exactly grasp the fact that I was actually there, that this was the day I made it through high school. As much as I’m happy to be done with it, there’ll be a lot I’ll miss. It’s been fun!” said Shiloh Pedrosa ‘25.

“I honestly didn’t feel any sadness, and it still hasn’t hit me yet that I graduated. I was super excited to walk the stage,” said Sanaya Patel ‘25.

As the night approached its end, speeches from general student council president Derek Dudek ‘25 and Class of 2025 President Sylvia Wu offered closing words about hardship, perseverance, and the strength of the class. To conclude the ceremony, students turned their tassels to signify their accomplishments as new high school graduates.

But, still, graduates take the time to reflect.

“My one piece of advice would be to take every opportunity you’re given and reach for the stars!” said Correia.
