Student Council Vice President and National Art Honors Society (NAHS) President Selena Luong ‘26 has been honored as December’s Rotary Senior of the Month.
Luong’s leadership extends across numerous organizations at EHS. Along with her commitment to Student Council and NAHS, she serves as Film Club President, class council member, and member of the RISE Student leadership team. Additionally, she is involved in NHS, the National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the Art Club, Future Teachers club, Yearbook Club, and Hands of Hope. Luong also serves as the wrestling team manager and as a SOAR College & Career Mentor.
Luong’s favorite part of high school has been building connections across diverse groups through mentorship and her involvement in arts and leadership spaces that promote both community and personal growth.
She expresses deep gratitude to art teacher Ms. Kelley Gavor and English teacher Mr. James Napoli. Luong credits Gavor with helping her find her artistic voice and grow into a confident leader over the course of four years. Napoli also encouraged her leadership abilities and supported her involvement in the Student Council.
“Without them, I wouldn’t have the opportunities and confidence to interact and help everyone I work with now,” Luong said. “Their faith and support earned me Senior of the Month and the courage to connect people.”
After graduating, Luong plans to attend a four-year college to study social work and education in order to strengthen her commitment to advocacy, creativity, and community improvement.
To underclassmen, Luong emphasizes the importance of balance and self-care.
“Saying yes to opportunities is great, but carving out time for yourself—it’s even more vital,” she said. “You don’t need to do everything; lean on your peers and school community for help. Balance builds sustainability.”
