Ms. Melissa Wertz has been recognized as the Educational Service Professional (ESP) of the Year for her contributions as an Edison High School social worker and member of the Child Study Team.

The ESP of the Year Award recognizes dedicated EHS support staff (counseling, coaches, Child Study Team, etc.) for their outstanding efforts in ensuring that the school runs smoothly and all students achieve their highest potential.

This honor highlights Wertz’s commitment to supporting all students’ social, emotional, and academic needs. As a member of the EHS Child Study Team, a group of specialists who evaluate students and help them succeed, the veteran staffer works with students both inside and outside of the classroom to meet their needs, from providing counseling to addressing social challenges.

“My favorite part of the job is building relationships with students and being able to support them through challenges while also celebrating their successes,” said Wertz. “Knowing that my work can make a difference, big or small, is incredibly rewarding.”

In addition to her role on the Child Study Team, Wertz serves as a Model UN co-advisor, where she supports students outside of school and teaches them valuable skills.

“Being involved in Model UN allows me to connect with students in a different setting and see them grow in confidence, leadership, and global awareness,” said Wertz.

The award came as a surprise to Wertz as she appreciates the vital work of the entire Child Study Team at EHS.

“There are so many dedicated education support professionals at Edison High, so being recognized was both humbling and meaningful,” said Wertz. “It felt special to know that my work and commitment to students were noticed and appreciated.”
