People see my hair before they see me, but it wasn’t always like that…

“Curly,” by definition, is “made, growing or arranged in curls.” What makes your hair curly is the way your hair follicle is shaped. People with curly hair have oval shaped hair follicles because of an uneven protein distribution while people with straight hair have a more circular shaped hair follicle.

Thanks to disulfide (dai·suhl·fide) bonds in the hair, which is a permanent bond between the sulfur atoms in the keratin atom, the way they are arranged and the number of them contribute to the permanent curly pattern influenced by genetics.

Curly hair ranges from large bouncy ringlets, with less shrinkage to bouncy springy curls about the size of a sharpie marker to tight corkscrew like curls about as big as a pencil. It is common to have more than one hair type on a single head of curly hair.  There are multiple factors for the way your hair will turn out as the way you style it, the products you use, and how you take care of it, all result in the health, definition, and volume of the hair.

I have again fallen in love with my hair.

It’s big, loud, and obnoxious–everything it should be.

The beginning of a long hair journey

Brushing out your curls leaves your hair in a poof.

French braids because sometimes you need a break. . .

All that work, product, effort, and time pays off.

Curly hair isn’t always easy to manage. Slick backs slowly become a dear friend.

Cute hairstyles are sometimes scary but more often rewarding.

Most of the time, your hair is big, loud, and confident–everything you once were not.
