Edison High School: Player of the Week

BRANDON WARREN '21

Matt Yascko ‘23, starting quarterback, was Edison High School’s Player of the Week.

On October 18th, Yascko shined under the lights and lit up the South Plainfield defense. The newly found star finished 16/32 with 237 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Leading the Eagles to their third win of the year and keeping this team in playoff contention made him the Player of the Week. This team has fought relentlessly, and the 3-4 record can be misleading because the talent on this team is undeniable.

Currently, the pieces are in play to finish this season 5-4 and make a playoff push. With upcoming games against Colonia and South Brunswick, there is no doubt that team captains see these games as plausible victories.

After taking over for Lucas Loffredo ‘20, (Transferred to Piscataway), Yascko has been solid with a stat line of, 45/84, 593 yards, and five total touchdowns. If Yascko can lead the team from once being 2-4 to the playoffs, he will be in the running for the team MVP.

“It’s the same game I’ve been playing my whole life, just a faster and the guys out there are a lot bigger.  I love adversity though and am taking this opportunity and I’m going to run with it,” said Yascko. Yascko was also nominated to receive the state-wide game ball for this week on Jersey Sports Zone, and is currently leading in the votes. He looks to keep it rolling next week against Colonia next Friday, October 27, at 7 p.m.

Below are Yascko’s stats for his first 3 starts as an Eagle.
