A technology enthusiast, Georgi Petrov ‘24 has been recognized as October’s Rotary Senior of the Month.
Petrov is the President and founder of EHS Esports, and he also showcases his passion for technology in other areas of the school. He is one of two EHS students who can manage the auditorium technology, and he is also the assistant technology manager for the theater department.
Petrov notes that one of his main challenges in EHS was founding esports from scratch.
“To get esports started was a lot more difficult than imagined, it was slow during the first year and a half and was very unstable as well. It was hard getting ourselves established,” says Petrov.
A lot of work building the club and a large student body was a struggle for Petrov in creating the Esports Club. However, with enough passion and dedication, he was proud to say that he was able to successfully create the club.
Petrov also mentions his struggles with being one of the few people physically present in school during remote learning. However, he says it was for the better as he gained confidence to feel more comfortable talking with his teachers and other faculty members.
Outside of school, Petrov plays curling. He has been curling for over ten years at the Plainfield curling club and has attended multiple regional qualifiers. Recently, Petrov has participated in the Youth Olympic game qualifiers in Denver, Colorado.
In the future, Petrov wants to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering. After college, he hopes to join the technology field and continue esports as a pastime.
Petrov’s advice to EHS students is simple. “Keep on top of your classes and be diligent,” he said.
