Hey Eagles, hope you enjoyed your summer. It’s time for the 2024-25 school year, and it’s great to be back in school! Totally not obligated to write that as StuCo President. This year is going to be fun, and you’re going to have a lot to look forward to.
In less than a week, it’ll be Homecoming time. The week of the 14th will be spirit week, and this year, I want everyone getting involved. If that means some in-class incentives will have to be offered to get spirit high, so be it (I’m talking to you, teachers…follow Sra. Griswold’s lead). Each day’s theme will be announced, but I can tell you now that we’ll definitely have both an EHS merch day as well as a pajama day.
On Friday, October 18th, we’re bringing back the Pep Rally. Both freshman and sophomores will be able to enjoy the event for the first time. Athletes will walk along the track in front of the student-filled bleachers to get everyone hyped for the second half of our fall sports season. We’ll also have a few surprises at the event this year. That includes a sponsor from Chick-fil-A, which may or may not entail a cow mascot throwing out free chicken sandwiches into the crowd, alongside other on-field entertainment that will potentially involve Mr. Ross in an inflatable costume running on the track.
Pretty wild stuff, I know.
That night, the homecoming court will be announced at halftime of the football game in which Edison will beat South Brunswick for sweet revenge after a devastating 30-27 loss last year (I’m willing this into existence). The next day is our annual Homecoming dance, with a Hollywood theme and Edison High’s very own Pranav Devaraju ‘24 and Kanishk Ragimanu ‘25 DJing.
The fun doesn’t end with the dance, as our first Battle of the Classes event will be soon after. Each class will unite to engage in intense battles of tug of war and three-legged races as well as some new events. The victorious classes will earn points for the year-long battle in which the champion earns a cash prize that’ll likely go towards their prom. Let the board know any ideas you have for new events!
Tune in next month for the 3rd edition of Dudek’s Desk.
Oh, one last thing! Our annual Halloween costume contest is a few weeks away, so get thinking about your costume. If you’re looking for inspiration, I’ve gotten the golden ticket three years in a row with costumes of Bob Ross, Eddie Munson, and Ted Lasso.
