On Wednesday, October 16, Edison High’s Boys and Girls Cross-Country Team competed at the 2024 GMC Divisional Championship in Jamestown, New Jersey.
For the boys, the Eagles ran hard with Joaquin Sanchez ‘26 placing nineteenth with a time of 17:54.43; the highest of the Eagles.
Following along, Bryce Hickerson ‘26 and captain Mark Palladino ‘25 placed 26th and 27th. Both of these athletes showed an 18:07.49 and 18:13.24 performance, respectively, providing a sub 18:15.00 time along with Sanchez.
Alongside the top cross-country team finishers, the junior class finished with sub-19:00.00 times across the board. Brett Bills ‘26,
Matteo Pittenger ‘26, and Abraham Johnson ‘26 ran an 18:25.69, 18:36.81, and 18:54.09 respectively.
As for the team’s sophomores, Eddie Schneider ‘27, Tanush Lingala ‘27, and Nikoalas Schneider ‘27 ran in the Divisional. Although their respective timings of 18:59.21, 18:49.41, and 18:35.65 were some of their slower paces, the sophomore team is still strong and ready for the next event. “It was a tough race, but we are looking forward to running in GMCs,” said Tanush Lingala ’27.
Edison’s girls placed first with a total of 47 points. Rylee McEvoy ‘25 placed the highest out of the Edison runners. She placed third running a 22:39.73. She was followed closely by Annika
Villanueva ‘25 who placed fifth, running a 22:42.06. Rounding out the top three for Edison High, Grace White ‘25 placed tenth running a 23:14.94.
Other top performances include Anna Weng ‘26, Annalise Dantes ‘26, and Vanshikha Chib ‘26
placing all in the top twenty. These athletes ran 23:30.92, 24:43.30, and 24:46.42 across the board.
Edison High’s Cross Country displayed its success in the GMC Divisional Championships and hopes to continue their momentum in their upcoming GMC.
