Hey, Eagles! We’ve reached the end of the first marking period, so hopefully you were able to lock in for some late-MP grade comebacks. Seniors, I hope you survived the Early Action deadline, and good luck to everyone who applied.
We recently had our annual Volleyball for Charity event, which was a big success with fourteen teams signed up and lots of money raised. Across the floor, the matches were fueled with high intensity and, of course, friendliness, as it was for charity, after all. Students from every facet of the school could be spotted having fun in the gym that night, with baseball players in sports jerseys, Chinese club members in animal costumes, and volleyball players dressed as smurfs. In what was a total shock to everybody there, the starting boys varsity volleyball team won the tournament without losing a single game. I also happened to be on that team; however, my purpose was mostly for emotional support and occasional cardio on the floor.
The holiday season is ramping up, as we just held our annual hallway decorating event. Let’s take this moment to give a special shout-out to every student who stayed at Edison High for nearly fourteen hours until 9 p.m., because that is some serious dedication. While sticking balloons onto walls and cutting out pictures of Mr. Ross may not be the most intense job in the world, most Eagles were spending their nights sitting at home playing Call of Duty instead of boosting Edison school spirit…so, I applaud everyone who helped. The school is looking pretty festive with the path toward the cafeteria being adorned with themes of Inside Out, Hollywood, Rapunzel, and The Polar Express.
The winter sports season kicked off this past week, and there’s lots of excitement across each team. The basketball squad is looking to bounce back from last year’s 7-17 season, with seniors Dedrick Harvey ‘25 and Kamir McKay ‘25 as well as juniors Dheeraj Samparaboyina ‘26 and Dominic Innocenti ‘26 leading the way. The wrestling team seems poised to build off of their success over the past couple years where they’ve gone 14-5 and 20-4. The boys bowling team is already 4-0 with wins over Middlesex, JFK, Colonia, and North Brunswick, on pace for a spectacular season. I wish the best of luck to all of our Edison athletes.
You’ll be hearing back from me soon with more updates and exciting EHS news before winter break, coming to you from the desk of Derek Dudek.
