On November 22, the Peacock Society hosted their annual “Diwa-Lit” celebration in the cafeteria. Students from all grades came together for an evening of food, music, and dance. The event, running from 6 PM to 10 PM, allowed the Edison High School students to get closer during a night of celebration.
The cafeteria was beautifully decorated, with colorful lights projected onto the ceiling and across the walls. The boys wore classic kurtas, while the girls dressed in sarees, adding to the traditional vibe of the evening.
The music was another major highlight of the night. The DJ kept the energy high with an inclusive mix of songs that reflected the diversity of Indian culture. Tracks ranged from Gujarati and Punjabi hits to Tamil and Marathi favorites, which ensured everyone could enjoy the night.
“The DJ this year was better than last year,” said Rudraksh Arora ‘25. “He could’ve done better with the Punjabi song choices but overall got most of the crowd to join in and did a good job.”
Audience requests were also a big part of the night, with students repeatedly mentioning their favorite tracks to the DJ.
The club charged a $10 entry fee, which many students felt was worth it given the lively atmosphere and variety of activities. In addition, attendees enjoyed the variety of food, including samosas, veg noodles, and cookies.
“The food during Diwali was really good and there were so many choices,” said Danny Praneeth Kumar Godavarthi ‘26.
A large portion of the attendees were seniors, who were very thankful to Peacock Society for hosting such a beautiful event. They had a great time and were the last ones on the dance floor, taking the most joy they could from what was their last Diwalit.
“It was a fun and culturally engaging experience,” said Rohail Gala ‘25. “I cherished the chance to connect with not only my friends but also my roots one last time in this setting.”
Seniors made the most of the event, as it marked their last Diwali celebration before graduation, and their enthusiasm and energy set the tone for the night.
