Edison High School’s track and field team delivered an unforgettable performance at the SJTCA Meet on December 28, 2024, at the Jane and David Ott Center in Philadelphia. With a new venue adding to the excitement, Edison athletes broke four school records, set two facility records, and earned national recognition, marking a standout performance this season.
“Overall the team did awesome,” said the Track & Field Coach John Krajunus. “Every time I turned around we were winning an event, setting a school record, or setting a facility record.”
The boys 4×400 relay team, made up of Moustafa Abdelaal ‘25, Bryce Hickerson ‘26, Joseph Pinheiro ‘25, Brock Brunson ‘25, dominated with a time of 3:27. This record-breaking run not only set a new Edison High School benchmark but also set a facility record at UPenn. Their performance earned them a spot at the New Balance Nationals and positioned them as #7 in New Jersey and #21 in the nation.
“Breaking the school record was amazing since I hit the goal I set for that meet and had my teammates’ support,” said Brunson.
Individual achievements added further prestige to the meet. Brunson shattered the school’s 200-meter record with a time of 22.94 seconds.
Brunson also said, “I am very proud of my performance, as I was able to hit a new PR in the 55m and the 200m.”
David Brown ‘25 soared in the high jump, achieving a personal best of 6’ (feet) 10” (inches), which ranks him 5th in the country. Kwadwao Boateng ‘27 impressed with a triple jump of 42 feet 2.5 inches, breaking another school record.
“David was on another level that day. He hasn’t jumped in a while because of an injury so I wasn’t sure what to expect.”
Reflecting on the meet, Abdelaal emphasized its significance for the team: “The SJTCA meet was one of our best meets. Especially with David Brown being 5th in the country now, it was just a surreal moment to experience.”
The achievements highlight the steady progress of Edison athletes this season.
“The team has greatly improved over last year, and we are proud of how far we have come,” said Tanush Lingala ‘27.
The Edison track athletes had great performance at SJTCA Meet, breaking four school and two facility records. The team looks forward to continuing performing well as the season progresses.
“These performances showed everyone how serious we are, and that they are hungry for more,” said Coach Krajunus.
