Dance enthusiast and active Student Council member, Micaelynne Correia ‘25 has been chosen as Rotary’s February Senior of the Month for her dedication to the EHS community, which includes over one hundred service hours each year. Correia has also shown integrity in her academics, being a member of both the Spanish and National Honor Society.
Correia expresses her gratitude for her family and friends, whom she says push her daily to help her reach her full potential. Additionally, she recognizes EHS as a community for allowing her to be herself and for being a place “that not only offers so many opportunities for success, but also a building filled with staff that is there to help me reach greatness.”
Correia adds that she will miss all of her friends and peers, many of whom she has known since elementary school. Though she’ll miss the familiarity of Edison High, she believes the skills she’s acquired here will carry her to great things.
Corriea believes EHS taught her hard work and freedom: She can pursue whatever she wants, and all the hard work will pay off in the future. EHS has also instilled in her the confidence that she has the drive and work ethic to be successful.
After graduation, Correia plans to pursue a major in Women and Gender Studies with a minor in Psychology at a large out-of-state university. Following graduation, she hopes to enroll in law school and work as a family lawyer specializing in victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
To current and future underclassmen, Correia encourages them to first take care of themselves, and second, be involved in extracurricular activities. She especially emphasizes the importance of spirit weeks and attending football games.
“If you run yourself into the ground, you won’t be living a life you enjoy,” she said.
Overall, Correia highlights balance while carving out special moments throughout her high school experience.
“You only get four years of high school, and trust me, these years fly by,” she said. “Take advantage of it. You won’t look stupid for enjoying your life.”
