Each year, EHS students gather in the Frank N. Cangelosi gymnasium, dressed in costumes, participating in an energetic and spirited game of dodgeball. The players dash across the gym, dodging and throwing rubber balls. However, this is not just any dodgeball game; this is a schoolwide event that not only brings students together, but also helps fundraise for a charity event.
The event took place on Friday, February 21, and brought people together through friendly competition. People competed for the best costume and to win the overall dodgeball competition. This year, the overall winner of the dodgeball event was Dodgy Style, with Justin Boslet ‘25, Gavin Boslet ‘27, Dylan Librizzi ‘25, Steven Librizzi ‘25, Emmanuel Akinbo ‘25, and Raymond Tavarez ‘27, and the winners of the costume contest were the Alpha Beta Balls, with Micaelynne Correia ‘25, Ava Torres ‘25, Mackenzie Einhorn ‘25, Ashley Smith ‘25, Jaeda Leon ‘25, and Alicia Castiblanco ‘25.
This event also fosters school spirit and friendships. Dodgeball for Charity provides an opportunity for people to spend time together as well as meet new people. Participants can meet people from different groups, classes, and grades, helping our school form a closer, more interconnected community.
“It was a great environment and extremely fun. We weren’t being very competitive but it was fun to be around and make jokes and laugh,” said Ajit Pranav Sivakumar ‘25, a participant in Dodgeball for Charity.
Additionally, Dodgeball for Charity is a fundraising event. Each year, the student council chooses a charity to donate to. This year, their choice was Ava’s Voice.
“We raise money for Ava’s Voice, which is a charity to help raise awareness for Usher syndrome,” said Kayden Aravena ‘25, one of the organizers of the event. Usher syndrome is a progressive disease where children are born with no symptoms, but slowly lose their sight and hearing. This charity not only fundraises for but also helps to raise awareness.
