Lacrosse athlete Ashley Smith ‘26 was recently honored as Rotary’s March Senior of the Month.
Alongside showcasing her resilience and Edison High pride on the girls’ varsity lacrosse team, Smith also shows her spirit as part of the Future Teachers Club, Student and Class Council, UNICEF, and Aspiring Medical Professions.
Smith expresses her gratitude for all the teachers she’s had in her four years at EHS, specifically recognizing her counselor, Ms. Kimberly Zavistoski, and college counselor Ms. Eleanor Rolon. Smith understands her journey to college would be different without them guiding her.
“I wouldn’t be as involved as I am now, and I wouldn’t have known where I was going to college,” said Smith.
Over the years, Smith recalls several moments at EHS that have made her high school experience memorable. She reminisces on her experiences with volleyball, charity, homecoming, football games, and meeting new friends. Specifically, Smith recalls her involvement in the girl’s lacrosse team and their late overtime victory over Sayreville.
After graduating, Smith plans to go to Kean University, where she has committed to study nursing. She aims to get her Bachelor’s degree in nursing, aspiring to become a pediatric nurse or labor and delivery nurse.
To the current and future underclassmen, Smith encourages them to enjoy the high school experience and make the best of the resources available at EHS.
“High school goes by super fast, so make sure you make those memories last. Do something you never tried because you never know, maybe you’ll really enjoy it,” said Smith.
