Fugate Pitches
Jenna Fugate ‘28, a player on EHS’s varsity softball team, is our first athlete of the week. In a win against Carteret High School, she threw a one-hitter, implying that Carteret’s entire offensive team only managed to get one successful hit from Fugate’s pitching throughout the game. Not only did she attain this notable achievement in softball, highlighting her dominance in her pitching dexterity and accuracy, but she also threw eleven strike-outs in the same game and twelve strike-outs against Perth Amboy. When competing against Iselin Kennedy, she went four for four with four RBIs and a home run herself, significantly aiding her team in accumulating runs. Fugate’s endless dedication and talent have empowered her team, allowing them to gain a six-game winning streak.
Akinbo Hurdles
A triumphant member of EHS’s track and field team, Emmanuel Akinbo ‘25 is our second athlete of the week. This season, he’s placed first in the 3x400m hurdles relay as well as in the 4x110m high hurdles. Akinbo has not just proven to be a fast and agile runner, serving as a key team player in attaining victories for Edison High, but he’s also won in the high-jump event as well. At the Husky and Rocket Relays, he placed first overall, attaining a height of 6’ 0”. Overall, Akinbo’s expertise and skill have uplifted the team’s spirit and success during this year’s outdoor season.
