Edison High School senior Anthony Calantoni ‘25 has been named the MyCentralJersey.com Readers’ Choice Baseball Player of the Week following a solid week of performance for the Eagles baseball team.
The senior shortstop, who also played quarterback for EHS’ football team in the fall, helped the Eagles advance in the Greater Middlesex Conference Tournament. Edison, seeded 11th in the tournament, defeated Old Bridge and St. Thomas Aquinas to reach the semifinals, which the team has not done since 2001. Calantoni’s recent batting performance has contributed to Edison’s tournament success while he continues to play defense and lead the team.
“It feels great getting the award–it really meant a lot to me,” said Calantoni.
For the four-year starter, sports have always been about more than just statistics. “Sports have always motivated me to be a better person and to always do great in school,” he explained, highlighting how he manages to balance his academic responsibilities with athletic commitments through careful time management.
His advice to younger players is straightforward: “Always have fun, you should never do something you don’t enjoy.”
Although Edison’s tournament run ended in the semifinals, Calantoni’s performance and leadership were key factors in the team’s success throughout the tournament.
