In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving economy, success in the business industry requires more than just ambition; it demands adaptability, leadership, and an understanding of how the business world works. From managing finances to marketing ideas and leading teams, the skills learned in business shape the leaders and decision-makers of tomorrow. Recognizing this growing need, Edison Township has introduced a new Business Academy: designed to empower students with the knowledge, experience, and confidence to turn their ideas into reality.
The academy, offered at both Edison High and J.P. Stevens, is aimed at students interested in pursuing a career in the field of business, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, and other related fields. The academy transforms students into leaders and innovators who will change today’s society and make a lasting impact.
Through this academy, students can explore and discover their various passions in the broad field of business. Finance, investment banking, accounting, operations, business administration and management, and marketing are several of the areas that students gain exposure to in their time in the academy.
“The Business Academy bridges the gap between school and professional business settings by teaching students how to communicate, work, and even think like business professionals,” said Ms. Lauren Cassella, a business teacher at EHS. “These skills equip students not only for their future careers in business, but also for other real-life situations outside of the classroom.”
During the four-year program, students will take numerous courses that will give them the needed skills and knowledge to thrive in today’s corporate world. These classes include AP Business and Finance, Honors Marketing, and Honors Advanced Topics in Marketing and Management. In their senior year, they will be taking The CEO Mindset: Senior Seminar, in which they can showcase the skills and knowledge they have developed in their time in the academy. At the end of the program, students will have earned industry credentials, which are certificates that will be greatly valued by employers and are internationally recognized.
“I am very hopeful that the Academy will help students pursue their passion in the business field through their structured course sequence,” said Vinieth Elango ‘27, a student currently enrolled in business courses at EHS. “I think it is amazing that students are getting the opportunity to take beneficial courses such as AP Business and Finance in their freshman year itself, which will definitely help them in the future as they enter the real-world industry.”
The Business Academy provides the real-world experience necessary for students to thrive in their future endeavors. Through experimental learning and exposure to the industry, the academy prepares students to boldly take and create opportunities in the business field for themselves and others.
“Students graduate not only academically prepared, but with a clearer sense of direction, practical experience, and the confidence to pursue college, certifications, or entry into the workforce,” said Dr. Nicole Halpin, supervisor of Career and Technical Education.
By the time students graduate, they will have become individuals who are ready to take on the challenges ahead of them with clarity and precision. These students will be able to utilize their strong foundation in business to lead, innovate, and make positive impacts down the line.
