On January 24, the Edison track team competed in the Greater Middlesex Conference Championships, beginning their championship season. The athletes performed well, with the boys placing sixth and the girls team placing fifth.
Aylah Bristow-Cabrera ‘26 broke the school record in the girls shot-put with a throw of 38-6.75, allowing her to take first in her event.
“I was shocked because the throws I had before were each getting better and better,” said Bristow-Cabrera, “but on that last one, everything came together, and when I turned around and saw the shot-put hit the floor, I was like ‘That was pretty far’.”
Another notable performance came from Bryce Hickerson ‘26 in the 800-meter race, who placed first with a time of 1:59.83, progressing to sectionals.
“I was really happy, it feels good to win again, especially since my junior year of outdoor track was not very good. I plan to defend my Sectional Champion title at the Sectional Championships next month,” said Hickerson.
The meet featured several other events, with Jah’mir Mosley ‘27 placing sixth in the 400-meter dash and fifth in the high jump finals. Similarly, Kwadwo Boateng ‘27 placed seventh in the 55-meter hurdles and fourth in the high jump finals.
“What stood out to me the most is how my off-season training has paid off,” said Boateng.
The girls team also had great performances. Emina Kapo ‘27 placed fifth in the 55-meter hurdles and eighth in the high jump finals. Alanna Edwards ‘28 similarly placed sixth in the high jump finals. Annalise Dantes ‘26, Anna Weng ‘26, and Susanna Herrera Patino ‘29 raced well in their 800-meter and 1600-meter runs.
“My experience during the race was good. It’s a little stressful, but I felt relieved after my race,” said Patino ‘29.
