The 2021 Baseball Season

So far, the varsity baseball team has a record of 14–6, while the junior varsity baseball team has a record of 10–5. The varsity team also has a record of 10–4 and finished second place in its division. The varsity team earned the number six seed in the GMC County tournament, and will play J.P. Stevens High School. The junior varsity team–with twenty athletes–received the number four seed in the GMC JV County tournament, and will play J.P. Stevens High School for their first game. 

The varsity team has twelve athletes, and the head coach is Mr. Vincent Abene. Sal Della Fave ‘22 leads the team with 6 home runs, a .420 batting average, and 23 RBIs. Della Fave has a 3–2 record and a 1.22 earned run average (ERA) while pitching. Dom LaPalosa ‘21 also leads the team with a 4–1 record, 49 strikeouts, and a 2.56 ERA. Walker Zampella ‘21 has a .370 batting average and 13 extra base hits. Evrin Virola ‘21 has a .316 batting average, 8 extra base hits, and 12 RBIs. Charlie Taub ‘23 has a .364 batting average and 1 home run. Nico Lopez ‘21 has a .333 batting average. Della Fave was nominated as a top 50 junior/senior in the state. Della Fave, Taub, and Jaxon Appelman ‘24 were also nominated to the County Underclassmen Game. 

Both teams were required to follow COVID-19 protocols in order to prevent the spread of the virus. “They are whatever, just gotta throw our masks on when we are in the dugout or when we are within 6 feet,” Zampella said.
