Edison competed at the GMC Divisional Championship meet nearing the end of the fall 2023 cross country season. The boys team raced in the fastest division, the Red Division, and the girls team raced in the second fastest division, the White Division.

“The first mile felt really fast and it was tiring to go up the hill near the end of the course,” said Mark Palladino ‘25. “The team performed well though as we had four people on our team get a medal.”

Over ten people on the team broke their personal records, including Palladino who ran a minute faster than his 2022 season personal record and was quite pleased with the result. Meanwhile, the girls team had four runners place in the top ten of the White Division, with Anna Weng ‘26 standing on the podium with a third place finish.

“I’m proud of how all the girls performed regardless if they met their own personal expectations because as a team they worked together to place second,” said Jessica Le ‘24. “However, I’m especially proud of Anna for placing 3rd in the championship race as a sophomore.”

Edison runners were very satisfied with their performances, including over five upperclassmen, along with underclassmen such as Joaquin Sanchez ‘26, Anna Weng ‘26 and Matteo Pittenger ‘26 who all hit course personal records and brought some of the lowest points for the team putting them in a formidable spot in the competition.

Senior captain Paolo Pittenger ‘24 delivered a strong performance individually, achieving a new personal record which culminated in Edison finishing fifth in the Red Division.

“This year at the red division championships I was able to set my own personal best and place fifth,” said Paolo Pittenger. “As captain, I am proud to see my team match our performance from last year even after losing senior graduates who have now left the team to pursue college education. I see lots of potential in our team and can’t wait to see what the rest of our season has in store.”

This meet was a big stepping stone for the team to achieve continued success, as this is not the end of Edison’s Cross Country season. Training each step of the way, the team will be competing at the Greater Middlesex Championships next week.
