Instead of the usual two recipients, our school has chosen to recognize four hardworking and talented players for this week’s Athlete of the Week award. Their dedication to their respective sports advances Edison High’s sports legacy, serving the students of today while inspiring the athletes of tomorrow. We’ll be covering two of these talented athletes in this article.
Garcia Spikes
Gavin Garcia ‘25, a player on the boys volleyball team, has been awarded as our first athlete of the week. In a game against JFK, he demolished his competition with one kill, one block, twenty assists, and four service points, allowing his team to win. Garcia then continued his win streak against Jefferson, having one block, three digs, thirty assists, and three service points in just one game. Overall, Garcia has thirteen kills and 308 assists this season, aiding EHS as a crucial team player and exemplifying his expertise as a spiker.
Edwards Soars
A member of EHS’s track and field team, Alanna Edwards ‘28, is our second athlete of the week. Recently, while dominating her competition, Edwards cleared five feet in the high jump, shattering the previous freshman school record and ushering in a new era of high jumping capability at EHS. Additionally, she ranked third in the GMC and ninth in Group 4, highlighting her agility throughout her season.
