Edison High School’s girls bowling team is on a streak, winning three games in a row. The string of victories is a mark of this season’s success, with a number of bowlers achieving their highest scores so far this year.

On December 4, the girls varsity bowling team defeated Iselin Kennedy 3–1. The match went well, particularly for Noelle Wilson ‘27, leading the team with 486 pins, and team co-captain Saissanvi Bothala ‘26, bowling her season high of 387 pins. It was a close match, with Edison bowling 1,993 pins to Iselin Kennedy’s 1,932.

In a game against Middlesex High School, the girls also played well, winning 4–0. Zara Hafeez ‘28 bowled her career high of 181 pins.

“I feel great during the matches because I’m always competitive. It gets scary sometimes when I mess up, but most of the time I feel great because I’m bowling with my friends,” said Hafeez.

In the match against North Brunswick, the Eagles won 4–0. It was a dramatic victory for the Eagles with 1,768 pins compared to North Brunswick’s 980. Laiba Nadeem ‘27 also managed to bowl a career-high of 342 pins. The matches brought the players a mix of emotions, from nervousness to excitement.

“During the matches, truthfully, nerves are high, especially in the beginning, but when we come together before the game and say our cheer and get words of advice from Coach Smith, it makes everything feel better and is a huge sigh of relief to get rid of the initial nerves,” said Ishika Bhalla ‘26, this year’s varsity co-captain.

The girls’ team also won 4–0 at JP Stevens. Alina Nasrullah ‘28 and Bhalla stood out in particular, both bowling 505 and 469 pins, respectively.

“Every match, I feel like I gain the feeling of being a part of a team, as every match brings us closer together, no matter the outcome,” said Bhalla. “Through every match, I gain more and more experience bowling.”

At Sayerville, the girls bowling team won 4–0 once again, although all three games were close. Despite their concerns about the results of the match, many of the players choose to focus on the match itself and the experiences they gain during the games.

“I really value how encouraging not just the girls, but everyone is; the cheers after anyone throws a good shot really make a difference in our team’s energy, as it pushes us to be consistent,” said Nadeem.

As they still have many games left in the season, the girls’ team hopes to continue their win streak and is excited to continue the season. Currently, their season record is 6–1.

“I’m very optimistic about continuing our win streak and hope we keep the streak going! The bowling team is like a family; if one person is down, another person picks them back up and gives them advice,” said Nasrullah.
