The Edison High School boys basketball team faced a tough challenge against South Brunswick, falling short despite strong teamwork and play. The Eagles entered the December 16th game with a clear plan to capitalize on rebounds, but South Brunswick’s defensive strategy slowed their momentum.

“The team’s main focus was to try to get a good divisional win, and the main plan was to try to push the ball off of rebounds,” said Dheeraj Samparaboyina ‘26, the shooting guard.

The Eagles went into halftime down by two points, but a slow start to the second half allowed South Brunswick to move ahead. “The moment that changed the game was when we came out of halftime only down two, and gave up a three-pointer and some other easy shots,” explained Samparaboyina.

Despite the deficit, Edison stayed competitive through teamwork and resilience. Samparaboyina praised his teammates, saying, “All of my teammates stepped up and stepped in when I wasn’t hitting any shots. They played aggressively, got crucial rebounds, and shared

the ball, which led to some buckets in our effort to try to come back.”

Julian Tan ‘27, the guard for the EHS basketball team, echoed the sentiment, adding, “We went on runs, and they also went on runs back at us.

The game also highlighted an important lesson for the Eagles: consistent preparation has a direct impact on performance. Recognizing the influence of every practice and warmup, the team plans to adjust early in the season to set itself up for success. Despite the disappointing loss, Edison remains focused on improving and using each game as an opportunity to grow together as a team.

Though the scoreboard was not in their favor, Edison’s resilience and teamwork seemed to be setting the tone for future improvements.
