During their final 2025–2026 season as Edison wrestlers, Jeremy Negron ‘26 and Fernando Avellan ‘26 both achieved a hundred career wins, marking a major milestone in both their wrestling careers and for the Edison wrestling team.
Avellan is a four-year varsity wrestler, competing in the 138–150-pound weight classes. Since his freshman year, he has accumulated only nine career losses, most of which occurred as an underclassman. This season, Avellan has one total loss with the hundred-win milestone as of this writing.
“I had already reached 99 wins, and my first match of this season would be my hundredth win at the Mike Dessino Invitation, where I also won first and received Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament,” said Avellan. “Reaching a hundred career victories at first was my main goal coming into high school; however, after realizing that I would for sure be able to achieve it, I had to set my expectations higher, but of course, it was still very exciting to hit that achievement.”
Reaching the final month of his high school wrestling career, Avellan’s achievement has pushed him to become a renowned EHS wrestler.
“Moving forward as a hundred-win wrestler has impacted my performance positively, as now I am trying to achieve the second-most wins in the school’s history,” he said.
Negron is also a four-year varsity wrestler as well as a three-year captain, competing in the 120–144-pound weight classes across his Edison career. With only one loss this season, he has committed to continuing the sport at Vermont State University as a Division Three athlete.
“Its meaning to me just shows that I’m not just any regular wrestler; I take my sport very seriously,” said Negron. “I didn’t really celebrate, but my parents made a poster for me, and we took pictures with it on and off the mat after my hundredth win. I don’t really let my hundredth win impact my wrestling at all, as I keep trying to wrestle better each day.”
Head Coach Mr. Scott Gerba praised both wrestlers for their achievements with Edison High wrestling.
“Avellan and Negron are two of the best wrestlers in the history of Edison High School and deserve that praise,” said Gerba.
