On January 14, the Edison boys and girls bowling teams beat J.P. Stevens High School by scores of 3–1 and 4–0, respectively. This victory marks a 2–0 record against J.P. Stevens this season.
The Edison boys started with a strong first round, taking a 746–732 lead. Among the round one bowlers, Shahzeb Khan ‘26 stood out with a score of 188 pins, allowing Edison to widen the gap over J.P. Stevens.
“During this particular match, all three of my games were above average,” said Khan. “My mindset is that I may not expect victory, but I can certainly hope for it. We are quite neck and neck, so I knew I needed to bring the A-game.”
Round two was a minor setback for Edison, losing by a margin of 656–667. Edison’s highest score in this round was 177 pins from Joel Rodriguez ‘27, pushing Edison to take a close, hard-fought loss.
Edison boys sealed the game in round three, winning 786–686, with high scores of 223 pins from Rodriguez and 169 pins from Khan. Overall, Edison secured a victory because of their high third-round margin, winning by a score of 2188–2085 pins.
The 3–1 round victory secured the Eagles’ win.
“Never underestimate your opponents,” said Khan. “There were some players whom I thought weren’t going to be a threat. But they turned out to be really good.”

The Edison girls won by a large margin in all three rounds, securing victory through domination. Before the game, the team was looking forward to the match against their North Edison rival.
“We were as enthusiastic and as prepared as ever to take them on, as we always are,” said Zara Hafeez ‘28. “We ended up winning with scores well above our averages.”
The team’s performance peaked in the first round, and the girls kicked off with a victory, winning 679–561. Noelle Wilson ‘27 raised the bar and scored a total of 157 pins, marking a strong beginning to their three-round winning streak.
“During the matches, I generally feel a mix of intense focus and adrenaline,” said Laiba Nadeem ‘27. “There’s nervous energy at the start of a game, but once I get into a rhythm, it’s all about concentration.”
The girls team continued this streak and won their second and third rounds with scores of 632–590 and 673–587, respectively. They consistently dominated all three rounds and maintained a near 100-point edge over J.P, with Alina Nasrullah ‘28 being the highest scorer overall.
Beyond the victories from both the boys and girls bowling teams, Edison appreciates the friendly and positive rivalry it has with J.P bowlers.
“I do like the J.P. Stevens team’s coaches,” said Khan. “They are always smiling and carry so much positive energy. Our coaches and their coaches are great friends.”
