Edison Township Public Schools has launched a modernization initiative to improve access to information and enhance the digital experience for students, parents, and the community. This modernization initiative commenced with a redesigned, AI-integrated website.
Edison’s modernization initiative will transform this school year, and we can count on the district to continue adopting these new tools and technologies, as it tries to remain present in the ever-evolving digital world.
Redesigned Website
The website plays a crucial role in communicating with the public, as much of the information about the school district is readily available there. The website features a fresh and more user-friendly layout, making information for parents and students more accessible. For instance, students looking for internships can now easily navigate to Edison Township’s numerous opportunities on the website and take advantage of everything Edison has to offer.
“The new website is well organized, and I also find the front page engaging because of the pictures and the way the interface is set up,” said Vijeta Garg ‘27.
Compared to the old version, the website is comparatively less cluttered and easier to navigate. One of the most notable additions is the live feed, which allows users to receive real-time updates about news, such as school announcements or weather closings.
“When I was teaching years ago, information wasn’t easily accessible,” said Mr. Kevin Kerins, an engineering and technology teacher at Edison High. “With these new changes, current and updated information can always be accessed through our well-organized website. With our strengthened communication system, students, parents, and schools are more connected altogether.”
In addition to the new website, the district launched a companion mobile app that covers the same content but offers an optimized UI for smartphones. This new addition allows users to receive notifications and updates, ensuring they stay connected even when away from their computers. Together, the mobile app and redesigned website mark significant steps Edison Township has taken as it strives to become more modern and connected.
The Use of AI
In recent years, AI chatbots have been integrated into everything from small websites to major companies like Amazon. Edison has embraced this technology by including its own personalized chatbot on the website.
Students or parents no longer have to wait for human assistance to clarify doubts. Instead, they can find available information by interacting with the chatbot.
“The chatbot made it easier to get quick answers without having to wait for someone to reply. It is super helpful when I’m in a rush,” said Aarin Shrivastava ‘28.
As of this year, the chatbot can only accomplish simple tasks such as directing the user to a specific webpage or explaining the information already on the website. However, with the exponential growth of AI and as Edison Township continuously improves its tools, the chatbot will hopefully be able to provide personalized recommendations and further enhance the user experience.
“These new changes and the modernization initiative are paramount,” said Kerins.
Edison’s schools are keeping up with our ever-evolving digital world through their redesigned website integrated with artificial intelligence. As Edison becomes more modernized, the district is becoming stronger and more connected.
