Girls soccer varsity athlete and dedicated member of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Kallyn Saavedra Lopez ‘25, has been honored as November’s Rotary Senior of the Month.
Lopez has been a committed member of the Edison girls soccer team for the past four years, earning two varsity letters in her time at EHS. She has also been an active member of FCCLA for three years, where she has won six gold medals and placed first overall in Fashion Construction in New Jersey. Her exceptional achievements earned her recognition as a National Leadership Conference (NLC) Scholarship recipient, allowing her to compete at Nationals in Orlando, Florida. She now proudly serves on the EHS FCCLA board as the fashion event chair.
Lopez values the connections she has made above all else, recounting that her favorite part of high school was “meeting so many amazing people and connecting with those who truly want to see me succeed.”
Lopez expresses deep gratitude to fashion teacher and FCCLA advisor Ms. Meghan Reeves..
“She’s always been there for me—not just as a teacher, but as someone who truly cared,” said Lopez. “She pushed me to be my best, even when I didn’t believe in myself. I’m so grateful for everything she’s done for me.”.
After graduating, Lopez plans to major in criminal justice or forensic psychology to pursue a career in law enforcement and public safety as a cop or detective.
To underclassmen, Lopez offers advice about living authentically and embracing the high school experience without fear of judgment.
“Just do it—seriously,” said Lopez. “People will talk no matter what, so do what makes you happy. You only get one life and one high school experience, so make the most of it!”
