DECA Co-president and UNICEF President Siya Bhuteja ‘26 received the honor of Rotary’s October Senior of the Month. Bhuteja’s involvement in EHS includes leadership positions such as co-president of DECA, president of the school’s UNICEF chapter, business editor of The Eagle’s Eye, vice president of the National Business Honors Society, and co-manager of the boys’ varsity soccer team.
Beyond these roles, she competes in FCCLA, dances with Peacock Society, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish Honors Society. Outside of school, Bhuteja serves as a research scholar at the New Jersey Scholars Program, interns with Congressman Frank Pallone Jr.’s Economic Committee, and volunteers at her temple.
“The experiences I’ve gained from my extracurricular activities have been the most meaningful part of my high school journey,” said Bhuteja.
Her experience leading UNICEF has taught her creative ways to fundraise for communities in need while inspiring EHS students to get involved, while DECA has helped her develop skills in research, networking, and public speaking. Her work in The Eagle’s Eye has encouraged her to be bold and inquisitive when reaching out to guest speakers, students, or local businesses.
Bhuteja identifies her favorite experience as her participation in DECA, recalling fond memories of competing in competitions and interacting with peers who challenge her.
“In my junior year, I ran for state office, which allowed me to connect with motivated peers across New Jersey and form friendships that continue to inspire me,” said Bhuteja.
Bhuteja expresses gratitude to her teachers, including AP World History teacher Ms. Kaitlin Hoey, AP Lang teacher Ms. Diane Frey, retiree teacher of AP Economics Ms. Lynne Tierney, and US History teacher, Mr. Steven Sharp, for their “endless encouragement, for fostering a supportive environment, and for always being available to offer guidance.”
She also thanks her friends and family for supporting and believing in her throughout her endeavors.
After graduation, Bhuteja plans on attending business school and majoring in economics and supply-chain management, focusing on sustainable approaches that create both profit and positive impact.
To underclassmen, she stresses the importance of getting involved in the many activities that EHS has to offer.
“Try different clubs and activities, explore your interests, and talk to the people around you,” Bhuteja said.
